The first-place Seattle Sounders head north to take on ninth-place Vancouver in this MLS matchday 14 Western Conference clash. What a difference a year makes for the Seattle Sounders who are looking much more like their old selves. Seattle suffered through an inconsistent campaign last year which saw them finish 11th in the West and miss out on the playoffs. They’re back at the top of the conference this time around though and will be harboring serious MLS Cup aspirations. The Sounders currently hold a one point lead over second-place LAFC but could see their lead evaporate in the coming weeks. LAFC hold the advantage of having played two fewer games up to this point. This means that Seattle could find themselves trailing the defending champs by five points should Los Angeles win both. The Sounders have hit something of a rough patch after starting with six wins from their first nine MLS fixtures. A disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Austin on Wednesday means that Seattle managed only one win in their last five games across all competitions.

Vancouver will be desperate for a win to avoid losing any more ground on the playoff spots. Despite coming off back-to-back losses, some home cooking could be just what the doctor ordered. The Whitecaps have been a dramatically better team at BC Place this season. It’s understandable as to why they come into this match as the favorites despite the respective league positions of the two teams.
