PSG v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips [8 May 2024]

PSG have the chance to overturn their slim loss in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund this Tuesday. The two sides face off in the return leg in France with Dortmund leading 1-0. Les Parisiens missed a horde of chances in the first leg and will be hoping to rectify this time. Having been already declared French champions, PSG have two more trophies to play for. They have 90 minutes to salvage their Champions League hopes and will hope for better fortunes at home. In their last four home matches, PSG managed just one win, a 4-1 victory over Lyon in Ligue 1. The last time they hosted a Champions League game, it ended in a 3-2 defeat. Of course, they overturned that in a stunning 4-1 win in Spain. Their loss in Germany marked PSG’s seventh straight game without a clean sheet though they only have two losses in 33 matches. It would concern them that their four losses in the last 40 matches, were in the Champions League. PRS have however lost just twice at home this season – against Nice in Ligue 1 and Barcelona in the Champions League. While they are banking on home form to prevail, they’ve been porous in defence and they know Dortmund will seek to exploit that. In their last 10 home matches, PSG returned just two clean sheets.

Borussia Dortmund followed on their win over PSG with a 5-1 thumping of Augsburg in the Bundesliga. They will not have the advantage of extended rest that PSG had, but at least the lead in this tie. Needing just a draw to advance, Dortmund will know they must improve on an away run that has two losses in three games. This season, Dortmund have played 23 away matches and won less than half – 11. They do have just five losses in those 23 matches though. One of those defeats was inflicted here in Paris as these two sides met at the group stages. PSG won 2-0 in what stands as one of their two wins over Dortmund in the last four meetings. Six losses in their last 11 away matches in the Champions League is a major blight on Dortmund’s side. This run of form in Europe will for sure mean they come into this game as underdogs. It will be worsened by the fact the Germans have just one clean sheet in their last 15 away matches in the Champions League. That was in their 1-0 win over Newcastle United at St. James Park in the group stages. The visitors will however take heart in the fact that in 17 away Champions League games, they only failed to score in three. One of those was against PSG in Paris.

Borussia Dortmund haven't had a strong run away from home in the Champions League. With that, it will bother them carrying a slim lead here. They should come prepared to endure a barrage of attacks from PSG. The Parisians have a good home run and we expect them to prevail here.
